Math Textbook Adoption
Posted 10/29/14

The Moraga School District has adopted the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, and all teachers are focused on delivering curriculum that is aligned to the Common Core Stadards.  One of the ways we are supporting this transition is by participating in a Mathematics Curriculum Adoption during the 2014-2015 school year.

MSD has formed a Mathematics Adoption Committee in grades K-5 and 6-8.  The committee is comprised of teachers from every grade level and administrators within the district.  Rheem is represented on this committee by teachers Alice Noyes, Kelly Cavallero and Jennifer Strohmeyer. Presently, the Mathematics Adoption Committee is in the process of evaluating a variety of math programs in the following areas: mathematical content, organization, assessments, universal access, and standards alignment.  Different teachers and classrooms across the district will be piloting several textbooks this year to ensure we are selecting a program that best meets students’ needs.  At Rheem, this piloting will be done at the 1st and 5th grade levels.

In addition to staff input from each school site, parent input and comment is being gathered through School Site Council meetings.  Dr. Carolyn Parker, MSD Director of Curriculum attended the Rheem Site Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 21 for this purpose.   In the Spring of this year, materials will be on display for further review by parents and staff.   Stay tuned for information about when and where these materials will be available.  After this period of review, the Math Adoption Committees will be making recommendations to the Moraga School District Governing to adopt textbooks for use in the 2015-2016 school year.

This is an exicitng process, and we value the input of all stakeholders.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Carolyn Parker at 377-4107.  Thank you!
