Communication is Key!

Rheem Elementary is a very special place that takes advantage of a “team” approach—teachers, students, and parents all joining together to promote a dynamic learning environment in which all students can thrive.

Make sure you are receiving all important communications from Rheem School.   Here are the Big Two:

RheemarksThis weekly email (look for it on Sundays) is sent through Rheem's School Messenger System from Principal Sullivan.  Family email addresses are pulled from our database (the info provided at registration) to make sure that ALL families receive this newsletter.  This newsletter focuses on current school events and issues.

PTA E-NewsRheem’s weekly PTA Newsletter is sent out on Wednesdays and limited to important information and updates about PTA programs, activities, opportunities, and more!  Once you sign up for PTA, you’ll start receiving these informative newsletters.

RHEEMARKS

May 13, 2018

Rheem’s Open House is this week. On Thursday, May 17th all classrooms will open at 7:00 for families to see student work on display. Don’t forget to visit the Rheem Garden, and the Library, in addition to your children’s classrooms.

Please keep in mind that Open House is not an appropriate time for an impromptu parent conference or to interview a potential teacher about his/her educational philosophy. Teachers will be focused on helping their current students celebrate their accomplishments. Thank you for your understanding!

For your convenience, and as a way to avoid traffic and parking congestion, a shuttle bus will run to and from the Rheem Shopping Center (by Starbucks), beginning at 6:45 through 8:30.

Please remember that Open House Day will be a minimum day for all students. Students will be dismissed at 12:12. (There is no lunch served on minimum days)

This Week at Rheem:

Monday, May 14th:

  • Regularly scheduled Monday

Tuesday, May 15th:

  • Hearing screening

Wednesday, May 16th:

  • PTA Association meeting 6:00-8:00PM

Thursday, May 17th:

  • MINIMUM DAY – Everyone on the same schedule 8:25AM - 12:12PM
  • Open House: All classrooms open 7:00-8:00

Friday, May 18th:

  • 1st grade SUBS (Speak Up Be Safe)
  • Students participate in Open House Walkthroughs

School News and Highlights.

It’s a GIRL!!! Did you know Mr. Thomson and his wife Kathryn are expecting their first child? Rheem teachers got together two weeks ago to make a quilt for the young Ms. Thomson. Our beloved Ms. Frank led the charge, as there were 4 sewing machines and 3 ironing boards in the staff room to help create the amazing blanket. And if that wasn’t a big enough surprise, Mr. Thomson’s 2nd graders threw him a baby shower this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Thomson sure are feeling the love from the Rheem Team. (If you haven’t done so already be sure to congratulate Mr. Thomson and feel free to give him some sage advice)

Spring Picnic and Art Show

The Rheem Team enjoyed a really entertaining Spring Picnic and Art Show on Friday, May 11th. Many thanks to this year’s Spring Picnic Chairs, Andi and Kevin O’Toole, for organizing a fun-filled event for our entire school community. Also, many thanks to Art Teacher, Larysa Larson, for putting together another impressive display of Rheem student art.

This year’s highlights included the rock climbing wall, giant inflatables, carnival games, delicious food, and fabulous music. And it wouldn’t be a Spring Picnic without Rheem’s annual jump rope contest, led by the always energetic, Mr. John Flynn with musical support from D.J. KO’T. Kudos to all the participants and congrats to the grade level winners.

CAASPP Testing coming to a close

CAASPP Testing finishes up this week for 4th & 5th graders. As a final reminder, please keep in mind that the best at-home preparations for these tests are a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a good attitude.

Thanks,

Eleanor

The Last Word

I hope this Last Word finds you celebrating a Happy Mother’s Day. It doesn’t seem fair there is only one day dedicated to celebrating our mothers, but when done right, one day might just do the trick. Hopefully your family followed the sage advice Ms. Inzeo gave her students this week with the “5 things mom’s love”:

  1. Mom’s love to sleep…sleeping late or letting them take a nap.
  2. Breakfast with no dishes.
  3. Flowers.
  4. Hugs and kisses.
  5. Happy Kids all!!!!!! day long.

With any luck you were able to experience most, if not all, of these today, and if you have two minutes please click here to watch a really cool video celebrating mothers.

Thank you for reading this far and I’d like to leave you with my favorite Mother’s Day quote:

"If at first you don't succeed, try doing it the way mom told you to in the beginning."

There’s no place like Rheem,

Mr. Sullivan
